Proof that Voice is not Text

ICYMI, last month four states experienced a 911 outage due to the oldest reason in network operations: cutting the wrong cable.

Jokes aside, the workaround was most telling. North Dakota was among the many that recommended callers text instead of call. This is not only a win for carriers and others who worked hard to roll out 911 texting, but also the biggest proof that voice is not text and treating it as such is a bad idea. I now have a perfect example to show whenever someone asks, why isn’t voice like text? Instead of discussing the difference between SIP and SMPP, billing increments, or why STIR/SHAKEN style caller ID attestation wouldn’t work, just point to this example.
